Letter in Association of Teachers and Lecturers(ATL) Report Magazine.

Letter published today in Report Magazine:

Fractured Families.
I have just read with interest the article in this months Report with regard to 'Coping with Bereavement.'
It is always best to listen to someone who 'knows' ,someone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, in particular to read the views of children who are trying to deal with this issue.
Thank you to all concerned.
There are so many heartbreaks and dilemmas facing young people within the school community, we have large numbers of children who are from different family backgrounds, and some are hidden except for those children going through it.
We hear a great deal about our fractured families but do we really know what that means to the children in our care?
There are over one million children in the UK who are denied contact with their grandparents due to family breakdown, this can be as a result of separation/divorce,drug/alcohol misuse, domestic violence, bereavement or family feud.
In lots of these cases the children not only are struggling with not seeing one of their parents but also not seeing their extended family.
How many children in your class are going through this?

J Jackson. Bristol.
