So need to reiterate ,that as grandparents you do not have an automatic right to see your grandchildren.
You can of course decide to go to court for contact, not something I ever advise, at the moment in the UK you have to apply twice, firstly you apply for 'leave' another word for permission to apply to the court for a contact order.
If granted leave you then go through the process of applying for a contact order.
Why I don't advice legal route is simple, it is very traumatic for all concerned and it will cost you your life savings. I have grandparents in the group who have spent 30,000 and still no contact, but even if you do get an order, the reality is that if the resident parent decided not to turn up at the agreed time and place you are back to court.
I am unsure as to why grandparents are being told anything different.
The Uk government have said that they intend to remove the necessity for applying for leave, but it hasn't happened yet and actually will make no difference. It has been that way in Scotland for some years.
