Welcome.

Hi everyone and welcome to Bristol Grandparents Support Group blog. Although we are Bristol based we have grandparents from all over the UK and beyond as members.

It is estimated that over one million children in the UK are denied contact with their grandparents due to family breakdown which may have been caused by divorce/separation, alcohol/drug dependency, domestic violence, bereavement or family feud.
Every child has the right to have contact with their grandparents
if they wish and unless proven unsafe for them to do so. To deny contact from a parent or grandparent has to become as socially unacceptable as drink driving.
I hope to keep you up to date with what is going on in BGSG and I shall continue to campaign for the rights of children to have a loving and meaningful relationship with both parents and their extended family. So please join in as good to hear your views, not just mine!
I also will support via Skype.
There is no membership fee to be part of Bristol Grandparents Support Group.

To L...... with love from Gran.

Having seen the article in the paper yesterday, 'A letter to............, which I posted on the blog, I think it is a great way for us to say what we would like to say to our grandchildren, so here is my own:
Dear L.....,
I hope you are safe and well and enjoying life.
You have been at your new school now for a half a term and I wonder how you are liking it?
Have you made lots of friends, are you doing after school activities?
Of course this week you will be on half term hols, are you going away or spending time with friends?
Some many questions, that I will never know the answer to.
I hope you know how much Grandpa and I love you, and how we think of you every single day.
We are always here for you if you ever need us.
Do you remember your little house in the garden where the fairies lived, I gave it a bit of a clean up as it was looking a bit sad, think I just caught a glimpse of something inside!
We have been putting the garden to bed for Winter, it will be ready now for Spring, a time for new beginnings and new life.
I suppose I need to think about the dreaded Christmas, as you might remember not my most favourite time of the year, the true meaning of Christmas gets lost under presents that nobody really wants and that they have been forgotten by Boxing Day. For me there are too many people who are no longer here to share the time with and so many lonely people, who spend Christmas alone. This year will be even harder as, this weekend your Aunt P..... died , she had been so brave for three and a half years but could fight no more and she has now left us. I shall miss her more than words an express.
And so time moves on, darling, we live in hope that one day you will knock on our door.
Enjoy your life, live and laugh a lot.

All my love,
Gran.xx
