Welcome.

Hi everyone and welcome to Bristol Grandparents Support Group blog. Although we are Bristol based we have grandparents from all over the UK and beyond as members.

It is estimated that over one million children in the UK are denied contact with their grandparents due to family breakdown which may have been caused by divorce/separation, alcohol/drug dependency, domestic violence, bereavement or family feud.
Every child has the right to have contact with their grandparents
if they wish and unless proven unsafe for them to do so. To deny contact from a parent or grandparent has to become as socially unacceptable as drink driving.
I hope to keep you up to date with what is going on in BGSG and I shall continue to campaign for the rights of children to have a loving and meaningful relationship with both parents and their extended family. So please join in as good to hear your views, not just mine!
I also will support via Skype.
There is no membership fee to be part of Bristol Grandparents Support Group.

Happy Birthday to my granddaughter. 2015

As the sun rises on a new day,
15years ago you came into the world,
A special girl, so much to look forward to,
I raised a glass or to, to the future,
The wonder of that first sight of you,
Cuddled close in my arms,
Devoted Dad watching your every move,
Eyes wide open, so wise, so sure,
A new chapter in our lives.
7 wonderful years, of fun and laughter,
Glue, glitter and sunflower planting,
Such memories, privileged days,
8 years now since we saw that smile,
A smile to melt any heart,
Days now of wondering,
I wonder if you are happy, still smiling,
Never think we stopped loving you,
We all miss you every new day,
Birthday wishes and hope are coming your way,
Remember to smile, to melt hearts and to care.
Live your live, lovely lady, spread those wings and fly.
Have a magical day, darling.
In our hearts forever, not just today.

Are you a grandparent reunited with your grandchild?

I would very much like to write about grandparents who have been reunited with their grandchildren, even if it is tenuous. It is so important that grandparents can see that their hopes can be realised. Anything I write will be anon and no locations and you can read it before I publish it. I know we do have a few grandparents who have been supported here who are beginning that journey of rebuilding relationships. Although I hear of positive outcomes more often than not I have to keep it confidential, quite understandably.
