Welcome.

Hi everyone and welcome to Bristol Grandparents Support Group blog. Although we are Bristol based we have grandparents from all over the UK and beyond as members.

It is estimated that over one million children in the UK are denied contact with their grandparents due to family breakdown which may have been caused by divorce/separation, alcohol/drug dependency, domestic violence, bereavement or family feud.
Every child has the right to have contact with their grandparents
if they wish and unless proven unsafe for them to do so. To deny contact from a parent or grandparent has to become as socially unacceptable as drink driving.
I hope to keep you up to date with what is going on in BGSG and I shall continue to campaign for the rights of children to have a loving and meaningful relationship with both parents and their extended family. So please join in as good to hear your views, not just mine!
I also will support via Skype.
There is no membership fee to be part of Bristol Grandparents Support Group.

Every child should be loved and cared for.

Every child should be loved and cared for
when they are not
they grow uncertain
unsure of those around them
unsure of the world.
This can lead to sadness and sorrow
misunderstandings, hurt and abuse
Every child has the right to feel the comfort of love and care
Somewhere out there L and others like her
go without the love from those who care.
Perhaps in their dreams they imagine
their fathers.
Perhaps in their dreams they imagine their fathers
don't love them, because they’re never there
Perhaps in his dreams K holds L
until she bursts with laughter
Perhaps he dreams of doing all the things with
his daughter that the rest of us take
almost, for granted;
A walk in the park, a trip to the shop, a first day
at school, a house full of children
a birthday party, a story at bedtime
A look from a daughter to a father
the most precious of looks
I love you Daddy
Every child has the right to be loved and cared for
every day, every week and every year of their lives
Perhaps one day, K and L will be allowed
a normal life
